IndiaMMUG aggregated by MXNA

Most of the feeds from IndiaMMUG are aggregated by MXNA, Macromedia was gentle enough to aggregate only selective categories so that we do not flood their display with other entries that are internal to India’s MMUG and not necessarily technical. MXNA aggregates all other categories except “General” and “Meetings”. Anybody else who wants to aggregate our feed may do so by checking the links on the “syndicate” column on the sidebar. You may wish to take the feeds of your choice, the categories are descriptive enough to explain things themselves.

LocalConnection

The LocalConnection class was introduced in Flash Player 6, it helps you in communication between two SWF files and thus sends instructions to each other. Remember that the SWFs should be on the same client machine (computer). So, LocalConnection can be established and used (a) between SWFs on the same browser window, (b) on Framesets inside a web page, © on separate browser instance running on the same client machine and (d) SWF on a browser and a projector. Well, this class can also be used in the same SWF but then I don’t think any sane developer will do that.
The LocalConnection.send() and LocalConnection.connect() are the primary method of the LocalConnection class, used to send and receive datas. The implementaion of LocalConnection is governed within the security sandbox, so you will need to address the issues of cross domain security if you wish to use LocalConnection between two different domains.

//Remember that "LConName" to be same in both SWFs
//code in the receiving SWF
myLCon = new LocalConnection();
myLCon.executeMethod = function (p1, p2) {
 //blah blah, this is where you put the code
 //to execute something
}
myLCon.connect ("LConName");
//code in the sending SWF
myLConSend = new LocalConnection();
myLConSend.send ("lConName", "executeMethod", param1, param2)

Security Beyond the Perimeter

The recent worm attacks like Sasser and MS Blaster have affected many companies’ networks. Hackers have moved from attacking the network layer to using applications to launch their attacks instead. The task of defending your network against such cyber attacks is vital to protecting your company’s assets. In order to provide better defense against Trojans, worms, unauthorized access and other attacks, organizations must look to securing themselves beyond the perimeter. Internet Security 2004 is an in depth security conference that will examine why such threats are becoming increasingly common and provide you with invaluable guidance on how to prevent and defend your organization against such attacks. Find out about Check Point’s latest Web Intelligence technology which provides Web application firewall technology for Check Point products, enabling fully-integrated application-level protection to Web servers and back-end systems.

Working with Sound Object

Here is a good bookmark which I wish to put it down here on this site for future reference. Working with Sound Objects was written during the Flash 5 days by Kenny Bellew; but should still be good enough for a kickstart on Sound Object. The tutorial states, “This tutorial is meant to build from information presented in one section to the next. To get the most from this tutorial, it should be read from beginning to end. This tutorial will attempt to use ActionScript techniques that are familiar to the intermediate Flash programmer and that are easily grasped by the less experienced.”
